Fried Kway Teow Mee

Photograph of  SG Soybean Sprouts (Bean Farm)

Recently I bought bean sprout from the wet market.  Came home, opened up the plastic bag and saw that the bean sprouts were not fresh at all.  So this time, I ordered bean sprout from Redmart.  I planned to cook Fried Kway Teow Mee and so I ordered all the ingredients that I need -- yellow noodles, kway teow, fish cakes, bean sprout and Xiao Bai Cai.

So I opened the soybean sprouts.  Looking at it from outside the plastic bag, I already can see that this soybean sprouts are so huge.  They were so thick and big as compared to normal beansprouts from the market.  So I picked one by one to pluck away all the root and to select the good ones, throwing away rotten ones.

The final product of my Fried Kway Teow Mee is shown above.  I cannot wait to try the soybean sprout.  I tried the Fried Kway Teow Mee.  It was nice, with the bean sprout giving it crunch.  However, I think it is not so aromatic as the normal bean sprouts.  Also the seed leaves, the cotyledons seems too big.  I think I will buy it again, this time, I would try cooking it with chives.

One thing which is lacking in my fried kway teow is cockles.  If there are cockles, it would be perfect. Nowadays, a lot of Fried Kway Teow stalls do not add cockles also.  Some have very small cockles also, very hard to find a kway teow stall with nice kway teow and cockles.

100 Days

Photograph taken at Church of St Mary of the Angels (5th Sunday of Easter)

Today is 100 days since father died.  We had prayer session for him on the 1 May 2021 at his niche and another mass dedication (mass for the soul) to him on 2 May 2021.

On 29 April 2021, which was last Thursday, I dreamt of my father.  It was the first time I dreamed of him ever since his death.  The cross with the white and yellow drape reminds me of the dream.  My father was dressed in white shirt, sitting down with some other people in the dream.  First time I dreamed of him dressing in white.  He had talked to me in my dream, an advice, but I cannot remember what it was now.  In the dream, I said I would remember it, but when I woke up, I had forgotten everything.

Photograph of my father when he was younger.

My father loved to eat and one night he came to my brother's dream saying that he wanted to eat chicken drumstick without rice.  My brother went to buy Toto and he won money after that.  I dreamed of him, went to buy 4D, but never win anything.

Easy Cooking

Baby Xiao Bai Cai with scallops

My one meal consist of one soup, vegetables (above) and fried hash brown.  The soup was Gingseng herbal soup, cooked in slow cooker.  The vegetable I need to wash and cut.  Then I put them in the bowl.  Add oil and oyster sauce to it.  Then put inside the microwave oven to cook for 3 minutes.  After that, take it out and stir/mix it with a spoon.

So that is Baby Xiao Bai Cai done.  I had some left over scallops in the fridge.  I defrost it and put them in the microwave oven to cooked for about 4 minutes.  After that, I drained away the liquid.  Next, add them into the vegetable.  Mix it well, so that the scallops will have the oyster sauce coated.  End result is good.  Tasty vegetable and tasty scallops.

Advantage of cooking vegetable using microwave oven is that there won't be oil splashing onto the kitchen surfaces.  It is just so easy and convenient to use the microwave oven to cook vegetable in this way.

Bus Ride

Photograph taken while riding the bus

It's not easy to earn money.  That day I worked 4hrs, I only earn $16.37.  In another instance, I worked 4 hrs, earn $21.34, but discovered that I had not collected cash from the customer.  The meal cost $11.79, end up, I earned only $9.55 for 4hrs!  So this time I took bus 187 to my mum house and coming back home, I took bus 187 again.  It cost $1.64 (total $3.28) to and fro trip.  It is much easier taking bus than taking a cab.

In the 90s and early 2000s, when I push the pram, I had to keep the pram then can board the bus.  Even though the pram can be carried aboard, the bus driver insisted that we should fold the pram and kept it.  If you did not keep the pram, you cannot board the bus.  Nowadays, having a trolley or a pram is much more convenient.  If you are pushing a pram, you just carried the whole pram and board the bus, just like that, no need to fold the pram.  It is so convenient now.

As I was walking to the bus stop, bus 187 went away.  I had to wait for the next bus.  The weather was very hot.  I was perspiring.  I waited for 10-15minutes and the next bus came.  Now I was so grateful that the bus was air-conditioned.  In the 90s, most bus was not air-conditioned.  I had my bus pass, but I have to pay extra 20 cents if the bus happened to be air-conditioned.  Nowadays, all the buses are air-conditioned.  How lucky we are now.

Earlier on, I took the feeder bus 911.  The bus driver was so polite too.  He greeted passengers "Good morning", and he waited for customers to board the bus patiently.  I had also encountered some more bus drivers who were so patient, waiting for passengers to board the bus when the passengers were some distance from the bus stop.  They just waited patiently.  More bus drivers are like that now.  In the past, bus drivers were not so patient.  They won't even care whether you were trying to catch up with the bus.  They just won't wait for you.  Nowadays, there are just more friendly and patient bus drivers. Thumbs up!
